West Des Moines

Steven JOHNSTON, 70, of West Des Moines, formerly of Oskaloosa, passed away Thursday, May 10, 2018 at Greater Regional Hospice Home HCI in Creston, IA (note: in Union Co., IA). Graveside memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 19, 2018 at the Union Cemetery in Fairfield.

Pastor Diane Brokken will officiate. Burial will be at Union Cemetery in Fairfield. Memorials are to the family. Online condolences can be given at www.powersfh.com.

Steven Dean JOHNSTON, son of Lee Edward "Bud" JOHNSTON and Mary Joy (HICKENBOTTOM) JOHNSTON was born December 12, 1947 in Fairfield, Iowa. He graduated from Fairfiled (sic) High School in 1966. After high school he graduated from North East Missouri State University.

On February 25, 1969, Steven was united in marriage to Rita BROWN. They settled there in Kirksville, Mo., before moving to Lovilia, Ia., for a short time. Later moving to Oskaloosa where he worked at CLOW Manufacturing in packaging and inventory. He later worked for Mahaska County Hospital beginning in 1977, as a medical supply coordinator at the hospital over the next 15 years. He later moved to Arkansas where he worked in a steel mill.

In 2007 Steven in his retirement returned to Iowa moving to West Des Moines. Steven enjoyed donating to different charities as he was able.

Steven is survived by his three daughters, Bethany (husband Jim) MENGEL of Des Moines, Ia., Kimberly (husband Dan) BARRINGTON of Mesa, Ariz. and Gretchen (husband Jody) WILSON of Leon, Ia.; twelve grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, his sister Judy PRINGLE (fiancé Jack RAYMOND) of Norwalk, Ia and his step-sister Karen (husband Jay) GRIDLEY in Muscatine, Ia.. Steven was preceded in death by his parents, step-father, Carl BOYSEL and a brother Kenneth JOHNSTON.
