James Edwin Wilson
February 11, 2005James Edwin Wilson , 56, passed away at his home in Fairfield on Friday, February 4, 2005, after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer.
He has been cremated.
A celebration of his life will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 8th at the Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield with Father Stephen C. Page offering words of comfort.
Burial of cremains with military honors will be at a later date at the Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Fairfield.
Jim was born May 19, 1948 in Streator, Illinois, the third of six children of Paul K. and Lois Boles Wilson. Though he had Fairfield roots, he was raised mostly around Bushnell, IL, and graduated in 1966 from Bushnell-Prairie City High School.
He served a tour of duty as an Army medic in Vietnam 1968-1969. He lived 10 years in Los Angeles, working for Sav-On Drugs, then returned to Fairfield, bought and cleared his own land, and had a home built. He worked at various local companies, most notably Rockwell-Meritor for 13 years. In 1997, he married Margaret Wood in Fairfield, IA, who survives. He was a landscape gardener, enjoyed ceramics, and was a history and current events fan. He had a unique sense of humor and was known for his kindness and generosity. Jim was a family man and a great friend to children and animals. He was a Member of VFW Post 1422 in Bushnell, IL.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two step-sons: Orie Broyles and life partner Connie Pool of Fairfield, and Aaron Broyles of California; two foster-sons: Tom and Mike Nash of California; two sisters: Cheryl and husband Doug Miller of Fairfield, and Judy and husband Mike Heyn of Fairfield; three brothers: Paul E. "Gene" Wilson of Macomb, IL, Dennis M. Wilson of Bonaparte, and wife Sandy of California, and Steven M. Wilson of Fairfield; numerous nieces and nephews, and three grandchildren. Brothers- in-law and sister-in-law include Quentin Wood of CA, Brian Wood of IN,
And Frances McGill and husband Howard of TN. He was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to your local VFW, the DAV, or to the family c/o M. Wilson, 2408 Queenscup Ave., Fairfield, IA 52556.
Arrangements are in the care of the Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield.
