Page 7, col. 7.MARGARET J. SHRINER. MARGARET JANE, eldest daughter of THOS. W. GOBBLE and MARY S. MCCULLOCH GOBBLE, was born at Abingdon, Washington County, Virginia, April 19, 1843. She came with her parents to Iowa when about a year and a half old. They arrived in Jefferson County Oct. 9, 1844, having made the journey in a covered wagon drawn by one horse. They immediately settled at Abingdon as MRS. SHRINER’S maternal Grandfather, JUDGE THOMAS MCCULLOCH, had come with most of his family to Iowa a few years previous and had laid out the town and named it for the town he left in Virginia.
She was married to GEORGE SHRINER Sept. 1, 1863. They were married by the bride’s uncle, REV. JAMES G. THOMPSON, one of the pioneer Methodist preachers of Iowa Conference. MR. SHRINER was in business in Fairfield at that time and they made their home here until 1886 when they moved to Omaha, Nebraska. After living there a few years they went to Kansas City, then to Denver, then returned to Fairfield. MR. SHRINER died here Dec. 22, 1903. After a few years MRS. SHRINER went to Los Angeles, Calif., where she died Mar. 4, 1928.
She is survived by four sons, THOMAS WILSON of Macapana, Tabasco, Mexico; GEORGE B., Santa Monica, Calif.; HARRY G., LaJolla, Calif.; GUY MARCUS, Kansas City, Mo. The only daughter, KATE ALICE, died in Omaha in 1895 at the age of 23.
MRS. SHRINER was preceded in death by a sister, May, and three brothers, T. M. GOBBLE of Clinton, Iowa; J. M. GOBBLE, Muscatine, Iowa; and C. H. GOBBLE at Kansas City, Mo., and is survived by three half-brothers, and three half-sisters — LEE T. GOBBLE of Fairfield, MRS. ANNIE M. LINDER, Fairfield, HESTER L. MOWERY, Los Angeles, FRANK GOBBLE, Washington, Iowa, W. B. GOBBLE, Denver, Colo., and MRS. MABLE HAWTHORNE of near Batavia, Iowa.
