Death of Nelson R. DuBOIS

Nelson R. DuBOIS died at his home in this city Thursday morning, March 24th, at ten minutes past three o'clock, after a lingering illness of about a year from consumption. Mr. DuBOIS was a native of Ohio, being born in Germantown January 15th, 1840, and it was there that he grew to young manhood and was married for the first time to Miss Josie CHASE. Two children were born to them. Mr. DuBOIS and family moved to Iowa in February, 1868, and located in Van Buren county, near Birmingham, where his wife died a few months later. Mr. DuBOIS was married the second time to Mrs. Helen A. LOOMIS, who with three children survive him. They are Stanley M. and Helen of this city and Mrs. Robert HIGLEY of Chicago. Mrs. Bessie SHRINER, a daughter of his first wife, is also a resident of this city. The deceased was a man of very quiet and unassuming disposition, devoted to his family and enjoyed the pleasure of home life rather than that of the outer world. He had many friends, all of whom will regret the loss of so good a man. The funeral was held at the family residence on South Main street, Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. Dr. J. F. Magill of the Presbyterian church, conducting the service. The remains were laid to rest in the Evergreen cemetery.

Mr. DuBOIS was the oldest son of Jacob and Mary DuBOIS, and was born in Germantown, Ohio, January 15, 1848 (sic - 1840). Mr. DuBOIS grew to manhood in Ohio, coming to Iowa in the winter of 1868. He first located in Birmingham, Van Buren county, where in June of the same year his wife died, leaving two daughters, Minnie, who died at the age of eighteen, and Bessie, who married Charles SCHRINER, of this city. On December 30, 1869, he was married to Mrs. Helen A. LOOMIS, who now survives him. Of this union were born Stanley, of this city; Margaret, who married Robert M. In 1878 he removed to this city and opened a meat market, and he continued in this business until a short time befoye (sic) his death.

Mr. DuBOIS' health has been failing for the past year, his death resulting from consumption. For the three weeks previous to his death he was unable to leave his bed, but at the last there was no suffering. He was a man of quiet and unostentations disposition and most of his time away from his business was spent with his family. He had many friends who are grieved at his death and who sympathize deeply with his bereaved family.
