Jesse GARDNER Taken In Death

Jesse M. GARDNER, 87, Ottumwa retired carpenter, died at St. Joseph Hospital in Ottumwa (note: in Wapello Co., IA) Tuesday night. He had been ill the past year.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Jay Funeral Home in Ottumwa. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield (note: actually buried in Old Fairfield Cemetery, next to Evergreen).

He was born Oct. 10, 1882 in Jefferson County and attended schools here. He was married to Bertah BAYARD (sic - Bertha BYARD) in 1903 (sic - 1904) who preceded him in death.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Melvin WALKER and Mrs. Merlin WALKER, both of Ottumwa; one son, John GARDNER of San Francisco, Calif.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. One son preceded him in death.

He is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. T. T. STUCKEY and A. R. GARDNER of Fairfield; Mrs. Ray GRANT of Mount Pleasant; John GARDNER of Bentonsport, Guy GARDNER of Stockport, Mrs. Ray CHURCH of Bonaparte, Robert GARDNER of Mesa, Ariz. Mrs. Flossie TURKEY of Orange, Calif., and Tom GARDNER of Boulder, Colo.
