Jerard HOAGE was born on November 13, 1932 at the Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield, IA to Henry W. and Hazel A. WILLIAMS HOAGE. He attended Roosevelt Elementary until moving to the country in 3rd grade where he started at Buchanan #4 Country School. Jerard went on to Fairfield High School where he graduated with the class of 1951, making him the first one from his family to graduate. On June 13, 1953, Jerard was united in marriage to Ilene MAXWELL at the Church of the Nazarene in Fairfield, Iowa. They were at each other's side for 46 years until Ilene's passing in 1999.

Jerard proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict, enlisting in the Army in 1953. Upon his Honorable Discharge in 1955, he returned home to further his education by enrolling in Parsons College. In 1959 he graduated from Parsons with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. He worked as an engineer for several different companies including Dexter, Fairfield Engineering, Loudens, Ervin Huneke, CECO, and Sewage Aeration Systems. Jerard was a true entrepreneuer and inventor, holding eleven patents. He made friends everywhere he went. He followed football (especially where his nephew Terry HOAGE played), and learned to love fencing after his grandchildren Mattea and Levi started eight years ago. He had an interest in grapes and their use in the wine making process. Jerard loved his family, education, athletics, animals, and helping others. He was always ready with a story or a helping hand. He loved his Lord and diligently did his work for his Lord. He holds a special place in the hearts of his family and those lucky enough to call him friend.

Jerard was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife, Ilene M. HOAGE (May 6, 1999); one daughter, Kristina K. BARBER (Feb. 17, 2007), and five siblings, Henry HOAGE Jr., Eugene HOAGE, Hiawana EMRY (Swede), Iwanda RITZ (Babe), and Lindburgh HOAGE.

Left to share his story are his children, Sheryl (Tom) BRADLEY, Joyce (Bruce) HANSON, Amy (Dan Miller) HOAGE, and Jerry (Cindi) HOAGE Jr.; seven grandchildren, Mandy (Tony) RICCO, Dustin (Jenna) BENSON, Sara BRADLEY, Matt (Danielle Riddle) HOAGE, Tyler HOAGE, Mattea MILLER, and Levi MILLER; seven great grandchildren, Mackenzie (Jamie) BENNETT, Draque RICCO, Hunter BENSON, Caroline BENSON, Elijah RIDDLE, Isaiah HOAGE, and Ramiah HOAGE; one great grandchild, Ilene BENNETT; one brother, Terrell (MaryLee) HOAGE; a son-in-law, Mike BARBER; one brother-in-law, Dale RITZ, as well as many extended family and friends.
