CAROL HOPE BROWN

Carol Hope BROWN, 96, of Fairfield, formerly of Batavia passed away Sunday March 18, 2018, at Sunnybrook Living Care Center in Fairfield. She was born July 3, 1921, in Ordway, SD to Harry L. and Lulu Lee LAMOTTE ANDERSON.

Carol moved to Iowa when she was 3 years old, graduated from Fairfield High school in 1939 and later from Parsons College. She was united in marriage to Stanley BROWN on March 7, 1942, in Lancaster, Missouri. He died in 2002. Carol taught in country schools: Valley, Little Brick near Richland, Cross Lanes near Batavia and later at Washington Elementary in Fairfield and at Libertyville.

She retired in 1980. Carol was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, Literary Guild, Batavia United Methodist Church and enjoyed playing bridge, reading and traveling.

Carol is survived by one step daughter, Shirley DAVIS (Larry) of Batavia, 2 step grandchildren, Cindy SCHMIDT (Byron) of Mansfield, TX and Dennis D. DAVIS of Batavia, 6 step great grandchildren, 6 step great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 4 sisters: Mary Estella McCLINTIC, Zelma DICKINSON, Lillian GILPIN and Violet ANDERSON, and one step great grandson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Thursday March 22, 2018, at Cranston Family Funeral Home in Batavia with Pastor Kelly Peavey officiating. Burial will be in Batavia Cemetery. Visitation with the family will begin at 10 A.M. Thursdayimmediately (sic) preceding the funeral service. A memorial has been established for the Batavia United Methodist Church.
