John E. DEMPSEY, former well known resident of Fairfield, died Friday at the home of his son, John V. DEMPSEY, in Nixon, Tex.
DEMPSEY was a resident of Fairfield for 39 years before retiring from the Louden Machinery company in 1956. At that time he and Mrs. DEMPSEY moved to Corpus Christi, Tex.
The body is being returned to Fairfield for last rites and burial.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, at the First Christian church with the Rev. Lee E. Davis in charge. Burial will be in the Fairfield cemetery. The body will be taken from the Behner funeral home to the church at 1 p.m. the day of the services.
John E. DEMPSEY, 71, was born June 24, 1890, at Olive Hill, Kentucky, the son of Emmert and Mary Elizabeth VINCENT DEMPSEY. On August 22, 1914, he was married to Winifred SHELLBORN (sic - SHELLHORN) at Parsons, Kan.
Besides his wife he is survived by the following children: Mrs. Charles NEFF, Fairfield; Mrs. W. C. ARNOLD, Pittsburgh, Pa.; John V. DEMPSEY, Nixon, Texas; William DEMPSEY, Fort Madison; and 11 grandchildren.
Other survivors include the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Kathryn HARR, Ft. Madison; Mrs. R. A. OATS, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; Mrs. Julia STANSBERRY, Fairfield; Mrs. F. F. PADGETT, Fairfield; Mrs. Ike THACKER, Winfield; Thomas E. DEMPSEY, Patterson, Calif.; and Karl W. DEMPSEY, Ft. Madison.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one infant daughter and a sister.
DEMPSEY was a member of the Christian church and the Eagles lodge (sic - Aerie/Club). He had been in failing health for the past three years.
