C. ANGSTEAD had his nose fractured last night at foot ball practice, this being the first accident of the season, but is in no way blamable to foot ball. The F. H. S team was running signals at the east end of the gridiron while some college students were also catching forward passes. The F. H. S players made a run to the north and McCleary ran to the south to catch a forward pass. Both McCleary and ANGSTEAD were running fast and collided, knocking both men down. Examination showed ANGSTEAD's nasal framework fractured.

Succumbed This Morning to Injuries Received in Foot Ball Game.Cecil ANGSTEAD died this morning about 8:30 o'clock at the hospital where he was taken yesterday noon suffering from hemorrhages of the nose. Physicians worked over him all night endeavoring to stop the flow of blood and as a last resort operated upon him this morning at four o'clock, tying up the arteries on either side of the neck to give him some relief. He never rallied from the operation.
The death of this young man is the second in the ANGSTEAD family to result from foot ball and the grief stricken parents are well nigh crazed with sorrow. Claude ANGSTEAD, a 13-year-old brother died about twelve ywars (sic - years) ago as a result of an injury to his spine while attempting to kick a football(.)
Cecil ANGSTEAD and his brother Harold have both been star players on the Fairfield High school team for two years, and much of the success which has been attained by the team has been due to their superior playing. Cecil was the full back on the team this year and assisted the team in a material manner in attaining the present high standing in the Southeastern part of the state.
Last Wednesday afternoon, a week ago today while on college field he collided with a Parsons player and fractured the fore part of his skull and nose. It was thought that he would get along alright until the last three days when he began bleeding at the nose and was taken to the hospital yesterday noon.
Cecil ANGSTEAD was born in this city April 27, 1891, and had spent his entire life here. He had always been a popular buy and was highly esteemed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. S. ANGSTEAD and three sisters, Mrs. Bert PIERSON of Davenport, Mrs. Will VAN DYKE of Canton, Ill., and Mrs. John GREEN of this city, and seven brothers, Will of Beardstown, Ill., Floyd of Davenport, Clyde of Washington, and Ed., Ray and Harold, all of this city. city. (sic)
No arrangements have yet been made for the funeral as the brothers and sisters who live at a distance are expected. It is probably that the services will not occur before Saturday.

Last Sad Rites Over Remains of Cecil ANGSTEAD Observed by Sorrowing Hundreds(From Friday's Daily.)
With his most intimate classmates acting as pall bearers, attended by members of his class in a body and followed by hundreds of sorrowing friends and relatives, all that was mortal of Cecil ANGSTEAD was borne to the grave amid a forest of flowers and laid to rest this afternoon in Evergreen cemetery.
High school was dismissed for the afternoon, the flag on the building hung at half mast all day, the senior class to which the dead boy belonged, formed on one side of the high school building and the junior class, to which his brother Harold belonged, formed at the other side and marched to the home to pay tribute by their sorrowing presence to a comrade and friend. Members of the local militia company attended in uniform. Brief, but beautifully impressive services were conducted by Rev. F. A. Newell, of the Congregational church.
All of love and tenderness that could be expressed by floral offerings were beautifully and lavishly expressed by these mute tributes from those who were most intimate with the boy now dead.
The peculiarly tragic manner of Cecil ANGSTEAD's death lent additional sorrow to the mere fact of his death and the members of his school class feel an especial sorrow. With these he was a particular favorite, joining with them in every movement for the advancement of the interests of the class, giving faithfully and unstintedly of his time and labors for the general good . With his teachers he was known as capable, faithful, loyal--the mettle that has made the local high school what it is. Cecil ANGSTEAD numbered his friends, inside and out of the school, by his acquaintances. A good comrade at all times--ever a loyal friend, his classmates and all who knew him have sincere cause for the grief they feel today.
In his home he will be missed as only an affectionate, dutiful child can be missed. Cecil was of a family of children who loved and honored their parents, brothers and sisters. He will be missed in the grief stricken home as nowhere else.
Besides a father and mother there are three sisters and seven brothers who will mourn for him. The sisters are: Mrs. John W. GREEN, of this city, Mrs. Will VAN DYKE, of Canton, Ill., Mrs. Bert PIERSON, of Davenport. The brothers are: Robert, Ed, Ray and Harold ,of (sic) this city, Will of Beardstown, Ill., Floyd, of Davenport, Clyde, of Washington state. All of these have been privileged to attend the last sad rites today with the exception of Clyde, who was unable to come.
The sympathy of the entire community must go out to the stricken family not because of the tragic conditions under which death came but because Cecil ANGSTEAD was all that young American manhood could be--a credit to himself, to his family, to his associates and to the community in which he lived.

MILITIA COMPANY OFFER RESOLUTIONS.
Tender of Sympathy to Family of Cecil ANGSTEAD by Local Company of Which Deceased was Member.(From Friday's Daily.)
We as members of Co. M unite in extending our sympathies to the members of the family who have recently suffered the loss of one who has endeared himself in the hearts of all those who have known him. In the death of Cecil, the company has been deprived of one who has been ever a faithful member and worker. His death leaves a vacancy that can never be filled by another. As a comrade and a fellow soldier Cecil has left a record that is one to be envied and one that is well worth striving to attain.
Acting under the principle that God knows what is best, we will endeavor to abide by His will even thought it deprives us of our dearest friend and comrade, who although gone from us in person will still be with us in spirit and leave us with a better standard through having known him in life.
Capt. John F. Ready.
