HUGH HARDIN
Keosauqua

Hugh HARDIN, 84, of Keosauqua passed away on February 14, 2018 at the Keosauqua Health Care Center in Keosauqua (note: in Van Buren Co., IA). He was born on January 23, 1934 in Des Moines, Iowa to Clifford Farley and Jessie GREENLAW HARDIN. He graduated from Sewal High School in 1952. Hugh married his high school sweetheart, Elzina HOOK on July 4, 1952 in Chariton, Iowa. Together Hugh and Elzina raised five boys.

Hugh worked in the law enforcement industry for the majority of his career, graduating first in his class at the law enforcement academy. Hugh worked as a State Patrolman for 17 years until he was medically retired in 1981. He was then elected as Van Buren County Sheriff and continued to work for the Sheriff's Department for 12 years. Hugh had a great memory, was a good mechanic, and loved to read. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all those who had worked with him.

He is survived by his wife, Elzina; five sons, Bruce (Sherri) HARDIN of Lebanon, Iowa, Randy HARDIN of Keosauqua, Cliff HARDIN of Bismarck, Illinois, Clint (Judith) HARDIN of rural Birmingham, Iowa, Edd (Coreen) HARDIN of Fairchild, Wisconsin; ten grandchildren, Mike, Matt, Ashley, Jessica, Brandon, Austin, Trent, Mackenzie, Trey, Kalli; nine great-grandchildren; four siblings, Lee (Pat) HARDIN, Jane HULLINGER, Ginger (Randy) WAGNER, Ellen HARDIN; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five siblings, John HARDIN, Mary MASTIN, Ruth GAULT, Rose THOMPSON, and Ross HARDIN.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 19, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua with Larry Shipley and Pastor Mary Kathryn Hart officaiting. Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 18, 2018 at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua with family present to greet friends from 2 - 4:00 p.m. Burial of cremated remains will be at a later date in Fellows Cemetery (note: in Van Buren Co., IA). Memorial contributions may be made to the Hugh Hardin Scholarship fund to benefit students pursuing further education in criminal justice.
