Wendall Dean KING age 82 of Fairfield, passed away Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at his home.

Behner Funeral Home is helping the family with arrangements.

Wendall Dean KING age 82 went to his heavenly home on February 7, 2018, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Wendall was born June 15, 1935, in Mt. Pleasant Iowa son of Eliza KING KIGER, raised by Harley and Ellen KING SMUTZ. A graduate of Fairfield High School class of 1953. He was united in marriage to his best friend and love of his life Shirley DuBOIS November 25, 1953. They shared 64 years together.

Wendall and Shirley resided on a farm east of Fairfield on highway 34 where they farmed for 25 years. They started, owned and operated King Distributing for 16 years, serving the southeran half of Iowa with stores in Oskaloosa, Ottumwa and Fairfield. Wendall served as President of Harper Brush Charity Foundation, Chairman of the Bethesda Cemetery board, attended Bethesda Methodist church (until closure) and Fairfield First United Methodist Church.

They enjoyed traveling and took many trips throughout the continental US, Mexico, Canada and Ireland. Wendall retired at age 55 when they sold their business. He and Shirley spent 23 years of wonderful winters in Mesa, Arizona. Wendall enjoyed a good card game, golfing and spending time with family and friends.

Left to share Wendall's memories are his wife, Shirley KING Fairfield; children, Doug (Teresa) KING of Rocheport, Missouri, Deb (James) BROGHAMMER Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Grandchildren, Jackie (Nick) GLASCOCK, Barry (Kayla) KING, Jill BROGHAMMER, Paige BROGHAMMER, Great Grandchildren, Nate and Charlotte GLASCOCK; one sibling, Erma (Glen) DIMMITT.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sibling, Keith (Lillie) SMUTZ.

Visitation for family & friends will be 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm, Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Behner Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be 10:30 am, Monday, February 12, 2018 at Behner Funeral Home with Reverend Beth Harbaugh and Pastor Gordon Hawkins officiating. Cremation will follow the service and burial of cremains will be at Bethesda Cemetery at a later date. There will be a luncheon at First United Methodist Church after the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to: Hospice Care Services of Mount Pleasant, Bethesda Cemetery Association, Fairfield First United Methodist Church. Cards and memorials can be sent to: 701 E Madison Ave., Fairfield, Iowa 52556.
