Robert E. WEIRBACH, 90, of Ottumwa died at 11:45 p.m., December 22, 2017 at Vista Woods Care Center.

He was born November 11, 1927 to Edward R. and Leora GIVEN WEIRBACH in Ottumwa. "Bob" joined the Merchant Marines at age 16 during WWII, serving in the European Theatre.

His 17th birthday was observed in France. He worked for 36 years at John Deere Ottumwa Works, retiring as General Supervisor in 1983.

Surviving is his wife Phyllis; two sons, Michael (Betty) WEIRBACH of North Port, Fl. and Roger (Glenda) WEIRBACH of Ottumwa, and daughter Deborah CLAIR of Colo, Ia; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; two sisters, Norma EMERSON and Jean COCHRAN both of Fairfield and a brother, Richard WERIBACH of Ottumwa. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, George Edward, and a sister Shirley HAHN. Cremation has been accorded.

Memorial/Military Services will be 11:a.m. (sic) Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Walter B. Schafer Post #775 VFW, 702 W. Main in Ottumwa with Chaplain Doug McAntire officiating. Memorials may be made to Heartland Humane Society or Hospice Serving Davis and Wapello Counties.

Reece Funeral Home, Ottumwa, is in charge of arrangements.
