Frank E. WESTON, 77, 2852 Highway 34, died at 8:37 p.m. Saturday, June 20, 1998, at Jefferson County Hospital.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Augustana Lutheran Church in Lockridge with the Rev. Roger Fisher officiating and Genelle Genkinger assisting. Interment will be in Lockridge Cemetery at a later time. Family visitation will be 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Raymond Funeral Home. Memorials have been established to First Augustana Lutheran Church or the Iowa Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation.
Mr. WESTON was born Dec. 1, 1920, in Fairfield, the son of Edward F. and Frances D. TOOTHACRE WESTON. He lived his life on the family century farm, established in 1850, in Lockridge Township. He graduated from Lockridge High School in 1938 and attended Iowa State University and Iowa Wesleyan College. He married Ann M. CASTELICH June 8, 1946, in Gary, Ind.
A lifelong farmer, he also owned and operated Weston Burial Vault Company in Fairfield from 1954-1963. He taught on-the-farm training to Korean War (sic - Korean Conflict) veterans. He served as Jefferson County assessor from 1969-1987 and continued working for the county assessor's office until 1997.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of First Augustana Lutheran Church, and he served as executive secretary for the Southeastern Iowa Lutheran Men in Mission. He was a member and past president of Fairfield Lions club. He served as the 9x4 District Governor for the Iowa Lions and was the recipient of the Melvin Jones Award presented by the Lions Club. He was township clerk and township trustee for Lockridge township, president of the Farm Bureau, member of the Jefferson County Republican Central Committee, and a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife; four children, John of Palm Desert, Calif.; Claudia GENKINGER of Mount Pleasant; David of Dallas; and Vivian OZANNE of West Haven, Conn.; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Mark of Des Moines; and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one niece.
