Mrs. Ella Jane SALTS, daughter of George and Alishia HOLMES, was born at West Lebanon, Ind. June 7, 1871 and passed away at her home in Fairfield Friday evening, October 27, 1939 at 8:45.
On February 23, 1892 she was united in marriage with James O. SALTS. To this union were born eleven children, eight boys and three girls. Three of these, namely Emma, Stella and Russell, have preceded her in death as well as her husband.
Those left to mourn her passing are, Ralph, Byran, Earl, Everett, Forest, Stanley, Clifford, Mrs. John TOMPKINS, together with 12 grandchildren. Also two brothers, Frank HOLMES of Fairfield and Will HOLMES of Linsey, Ontario, Canada, and two sisters, Mrs. Rose LYONS of Merna, Neb. and Lavena SIMMONS of Rochester, New York. Also a host of friends who hold her in hallowed recollection.
Mrs. SALTS came to Jefferson county in 1898 where she has lived ever since. She had been in failing health for the past fifteen years but only took to her bed last Sunday, Oct. 22, where her life slowly ebbed away.
She will be remembered for her sympathy and kindness which went out to her friends and loved ones and for her patience which never failed even in the times of suffering and sorrow and trial.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Oct. 29, 1939 at the Hoskins Funeral Home. Burial was at the Gantz cemetery.
