Dennis E. THOMES 69 of Lockridge passed away on Thursday, November 9, 2017, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City (note: in Johnson Co., IA).

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Murphy Funeral Home of Mt. Pleasant.

October 1, 1947 - November 9, 2017

Dennis E. THOMES, 69, of Lockridge passed away on Thursday, November 9, 2017, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, November 15, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Dianne Brokken officiating. Friends may call after noon on Tuesday, at the Murphy Funeral Home, where the family will be present from 4:00-8:00 that evening. Private family burial will be in the Vorhies Cemetery rural Lockridge. A memorial has been established in his memory.

Dennis was born on October 1, 1948, in Mt. Pleasant the son of Donald Eugene and Ethel Mae SCHWAB THOMES. He was united in marriage to Marilyn WILLIAMSON on September 4, 1970, from this marriage four children were born; they later divorced. He then married Belinda ROSS in 1995 and they had two children, they later divorced.

Dennis worked at Bluebird Midwest in Mt. Pleasant from 1969-1971, Brighton Locker from 1971-1983. The city of Mt. Pleasant from 1984 until he retired in 2004. He served on the Jefferson County Fair Board for 34 years, and was very active in 4-H, he was inducted into the 4-H Hall of Fame in 2011. Dennis enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing, camping and most of all spending time with his grandchildren. He was known and loved by many and was always there to lend a helping hand.

He is survived by his children: Teresa HANSHAW (Jeff) of Wellman, Patricia SCHNEIDER (Doug) of Vinton, Julie CLUBB (Joe) of Sigourney, Denise THOMES of Oskaloosa, Lewis THOMES of Lockridge, Taylor THOMES (Max) of Lockridge and his step-son Rory ROSS of Los Angeles; 10 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and three step-grandchildren; three cousins Kathy KITCH of Dubuque, Jan LEVINSON of Ft. Collins, Colo., Mary KITCH of Fairfield.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents and his stepfather Max M. SCHAEFER.
