JOHN DAVIES

John DAVIES, son of Edward and Ellen DAVIES was born in Noth Wales Hawarden on River Deem in Flintshire October 5, 1839. Came to Burlington, Iowa, in 1849, two years later they moved to Jefferson county and made their home in Blackhawk township.

He was married to Mary WIGGINS, August 29, 1862, who passed away November 27, 1885. Seven children were born to this union. Three living are: E. G. DAVIES, Mrs. G. G. BRUCE, Mrs. A. S. McPHERSON. Mr. DAVIES and Mrs. Sarah McMULLEN were married June 16, 1887. One daughter was born, Mrs. E. S. McBRIDE. Fourteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and two stepsons, also survive.

He enlisted in the 30th Iowa (sic - Co. H) in 1862 and served three years. He was a member of the Congregational church, also a Mason, taking an active part in all civic affairs, being county treasurer from 1882 to 1888.

He was cashier of First National bank, also of the Iowa State Savings bank. In 1904 Mr. DAVIES moved to Spokane, Wash., where he passed away October 18, 1925 at the age of 86 and will be buried in Spokane, on Oct. 20. His only brother Thomas DAVIES passed away nine weeks ago.
