Hot Springs, ARRobert Glen FRESHWATER, age 90, passed away on October 14, in Hot Springs, AR, following a brief illness. He was born in Birmingham, Iowa, on February 6, 1927, to Robert N. and Hazel CREEK FRESHWATER.
Bob graduated from Birmingham High School, Birmingham, Iowa, and entered the United States Marine Corps during WWII. He served in the Pacific theater, seeing action on both Tinian and Iwo Jima. After discharge, he was called again to serve during the Korean conflict as a demolitions trainer. Bob received recognition for Combat Action, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign w/2 Stars, World War II Victory, and National Defense Service. He remained a proud Marine throughout his life.
He is survived by his wife, Patsy of Hot Springs; sister Joann of Huston; son John (Gus), daughter Annette, stepchildren Becky, Rick, Barbara, Patty, 11 grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Hazel, his sister Byrla, and his daughter, Teresa. Upon returning from service to his country, Bob graduated from Parsons College in Fairfield, IA. He went on to have a long and fulfilling career as an Industrial Plant Chemist, retiring in 1994 as Chief Chemist from Georgia Gulf in Baton Rouge.
Bob was a lifelong fan of St. Louis Cardinals baseball, Iowa football, and the LSU Tigers. He enjoyed all sports, and at various times in his life served as a youth sports coach. Bob was a Scoutmaster for 16 years. We pray that his impact in the afterlife will be as positive and wonderful as it was here on earth. His love lives on.
Following a family gathering in Hot Springs, an interment will take place in Fairfield, Iowa. Donations in Bob's name can be made to Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitation, P.O. Box 369, Kendalia, Texas, 78027.
