Viola E. Nichols

Viola E. Nichols, 84, of Mount Pleasant and formerly of Richland, died at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday Jan. 18, 2005, at Park Place Long Term Care Center in Mount Pleasant.

The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua with the Rev. Bryan Wixom officiating. Burial will be in Vernon Cemetery.

Open visitation will be held from 2-5 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and visitation with the family will be held from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Saturday immediately before the funeral.

Memorials to Hospice of Central Iowa or to Vernon Cemetery can be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 2659 Kentucky Ave., Mount Pleasant 52641.

Mrs. Nichols was born May 14, 1920, in Hope, N.D., the daughter of Arthur W. and Matilda A. Vierkandt Hagebock. She married Everett W. Nichols Oct. 18, 1936, in Bowling Green, Mo.

She was raised in Hope and attended schools there.

She and her husband lived for a short time in North Dakota and Bentonsport before moving to Richland in 1941.

Mrs. Nichols had been a member of the Hope United Methodist Church in North Dakota and was active in the Richland Friends Church and Friends Church Ladies Aid.

She resided at Park Place in Mount Pleasant since December 2001.

Survivors include her husband of Mount Pleasant; two sons, Jerry Nichols of Centerville and Paul Nichols and wife Peg of Richland; four daughters, Joylynn Smith and husband Jerry of Hillsboro; Pat Brem and husband Dave of West Burlington; Teresa Coleman and husband Randy of Mount Pleasant; and Tamara Vandevenne of Chariton; nine grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; one brother, Marvin Hagebock of Valley City, N.D.; and two sisters, June Grant of Kenmare, N.D. and Joyce Cole of Hope.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Clarence Hagebock; and three sisters, Velma Smith, Mildred Hartlett and Carol Fouche.
