Dale W MILLER

Mt. Pleasant

Dale W. MILLER, 81, of Mt. Pleasant and formerly of rural Fairfield, passed away on Monday, August 21, 2017, at the Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant (note: in Henry Co., IA).

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 25, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Rodger Moyer and Rev. Paul Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery rural Mt. Pleasant (note: in Henry Co., IA). Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Thursday at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant where the family will be present from 5 to 8 that evening. Memorials may be directed to the Bible Missionary Church in his memory.

Dale was born on November 24, 1935, rural Danville, the son of Wesley and Alice ROGERS MILLER. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1954. Dale was united in marriage to Merna R. LEE on February 24, 1956. They celebrated 61 years of marriage.

Dale was a farmer and sold real estate with Davis and Palmer and later with Lefty's Real Estate both of Fairfield. He sold crop insurance for Farmer's Mutual Hail Insurance Company, for over forty years. He organized the Jefferson County Chapter of the Iowa Soybean Association and served as its president for eight years. He was a member of the Jefferson County Pork Producers and the Farm Bureau for many years. Dale sold seed corn for Lynks and Mycogen. Dale had a pilot's license and enjoyed flying. He was in the Army Reserves.

He was a charter member of the Mt. Pleasant Bible Missionary Church. At the local church, he taught Sunday School beginning as a teenager, until the age of eighty. Served as a trustee, and a worship service song leader for over fifty years. He was the district treasurer of the Iowa-Illinois District for 47 years; 56 years on the District Advisory Board, and 40 years on the General Advisory Board. He also served on the Bible Missionary Board for many years, and as the Secretary of Church Extension for 15 years. Dale was a member of Gideons International.

Dale enjoyed reading, farming, always endeavoring to improve each farm he either rented or purchased. He thoroughly enjoyed his children, always taking them with him whenever possible, also his grandchildren and great grands. He loved his little children and could often be seen carrying an infant in his arms. He also loved to share his faith with others, both by word and example.

He is survived by his wife Merna of Mt. Pleasant, his children: Merlin (Kim) MILLER, Mark MILLER, DeRene (Tom) BROMELL, all of Fairfield, Jolaine (David) COMFORT of Conway, Missouri, along with 8 grandchildren: Eric (Melissa) MILLER, Ashley (Logan) SCHAEFER, Brandin, Aspen and Charlin BROMWLL, Kedrick, Keltin and Kyron COMFORT, and 6 great grandchildren: Colter, JJ and Rose SCHAEFER, Piper, Blake and Brenna MILLER, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. three sisters: Anna MYERS, Judy GAYLORD both of New London and Joan HESSELTINE of Tullahoma, TN. and three brothers Larry MILLER of Rock Island, John MILLER of New London and Jerry MILLER of Connersville, IN.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Ruth SEAGER, two brothers, Herbert MILLER and an infant brother Wilbur, several nephews and nieces and aunts and uncles.
