Janet K. MARNER, 79, of Keosauqua, IA, passed away on Wednesday, July, 5 2017 at Great River Medical Center. Visitation will begin after 12 noon, on Sunday, July 9, 2017, at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will greet friends from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. that afternoon. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 10, 2017, at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Hess officiating. Burial will follow in Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, IA (note: in Washington Co., IA). Gifts of love and friendship may be given to Child Evangelism Fellowship or Washington County 4-H. Born April 9, 1938, in Washington, IA, Janet Karen was the daughter of Milton Edward and Olive BERGGREN ROSS. She graduated from West Chester High School and then attended Iowa State University, Ames, IA obtaining a BA in home economics. She continued her education in the master's program at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA. Janet married Terry PALMER, and they later divorced. On April 4, 1974, she married Wallace G. MARNER in Oskaloosa, IA.

Janet taught home economics at Sigourney High School in Sigourney, IA and Mid Prairie High School in Wellman, IA. She owned The Spinning Wheel fabric shop in Sigourney which she continued in Keosauqua, IA when they moved to Bentonsport, IA. She also taught at Harmony High School. She operated The Custom Shop in Fairfield, IA, for ten years, tailoring and making custom draperies. Most recently Janet provided transportation for Amish families in her community. Hobbies and interests included gardening and traveling. Janet was active in teaching children about Jesus through the 5-Day Club. She was an avid reader and an excellent seamstress.

Survivors include her husband, Wally; one daughter, Catherine (Alan) WERTJES of Olympia, WA; three sons, John (Becky) PALMER of Keota, IA, James (Donna) PALMER of Wellman, IA, and Andrew (Jamie) MARNER of Quincy, IL; one brother, Dr. Richard (Karen) ROSS of Ames, IA; and nine grandchildren.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents.
