OBITUARY FOR HELEN CARPENTER,
Wichita Falls, TX

Former Fairfield resident and faculty member of Parsons College.

Helen Marie CARPENTER, age 98 of Wichita Falls, Texas died peacefully on May 4, 2017. She was born near Van Meter, Iowa on the family farm April 21, 1919, to Lloyd And Marie MITCHELL.

Helen received her B.A. degree in music in 1940 from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. That same year she married Kenneth CARPENTER of Des Moines. They were married for 73 years. After teaching in many schools in Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota and Colorado, Ken and Helen lived for 30 years in the Texas Hill Country.

Helen and Ken shared their musical talents well into their 90's. They were on the faculty of Parsons College in the Music Department from 1962-1969, and then on to head the Music Department of Lea College, a Parson's satellite, in Albert Lea, Minn. Helen taught piano to numerous Fairfield children and adults and was organist and pianist for many church and civic occasions. She entertained those who attended her 98th birthday with her piano skills.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Kenneth and her parents. Helen is survived by her children: Sue HAGA of Eden Prairie, Minn, Daniel and wife Kathryn CARPENTER of Garland, Texas, Thomas and wife Julie CARPENTER of Eugene, Oregon Janelle and husband Steve from Wichita Falls, Texas also 10 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

Her ashes will be interred along with her husband's, July 11, 2017 in Adel, Iowa. The graveside service will include Military Honors for Ken for his WWII service.
