Artemio "Art" Ramos GUILLERMO, 87, of Fairfield, died Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at his home.

Artemio "Art" Ramos GUILLERMO, age 87, passed Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at his home.

A memorial service will be 11:00 am, Saturday, July 1, 2017, Fairfield First United Methodist Church with Dave Goehring officiating. Burial of cremains will be at a later date.

In-lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Fairfield First United Methodist Church Higher Education Fund. Cards and memorials can be mailed to: 1701 Linden Drive, Apt. A, Fairfield, Iowa 52556.

Artemio Ramos GUILLERMO was born on December 2, 1929 in Cuyapo, N.E. Philippines. Art was the son of Rev. Esteban and Isidra GUILLERMO. Siblings include Prisilla, George, Loida, and Estaban, Jr. Art married Corazon Fajardo BARTOLOME on March 22, 1958 in San Miguel, Bulacuan, Philippines.

Art attended Siliman University, and received a Fullbright Scholarship to attend Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois where he obtained his Masters in Journalism. He obtained his Doctorate in Journalism and Public Relations through Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York.

Art was a trailblazer as evidenced by his willingness to relocate from the Philippines to the United States in an effort to provide a better life for his wife and daughters. Art and Cora moved to the United States in October, 1968 with their four daughters, Lulahati (Lulu), Dalisay (Dolly), Paraluman (Rae), and Mutya (Mae). Art's career was varied throughout his life. He was an editor at the Philippine Federation of Christian Churches, the program officer for American Education at the American Embassy, an Instructor at the University of the East in Manila, Brand Manager at Proctor and Gamble, and a Professor at Bowling Green State University, Arkansas State University and University of Northern Iowa. Art authored several books: Historical Dictionary of the Philippines, Aurora Borealis and Tale of 1000 Isles. Art was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church.

His genuine interest was always the well-being of his wife and daughters, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was very proud of his son-in-law's (sic) Kurt SCHENK, David TERRY, and Rick HERMAN. His grandchildren are Scott SCHENK, Michael SCHENK, Matthew SCHENK, Chelsea HERMAN, Samantha HERMAN, Marissa TERRY, and Rachel TERRY. Ralyee and Ivan HERMAN are his great-grandchildren who provided constant entertainment and joy to him.

Art was a voracious reader and writer and took pride in mastering the English language. Later in life Art took up deer hunting and was featured in Field and Stream. Art shot his first seven-point buck at the age of 77. Art was an avid fisherman. Each day he "exercised" casting his fishing line at his favorite pond where he caught his beloved "lunkers". His wisdom and quirky sense of humor will be greatly missed.
