Marilyn "M.J." Jean BERTSCH, 75, of F airfield, died Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City (note: in Johnson Co., IA).
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Ottumwa, with the Rev. Jeff McPheron officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Ottumwa (note: in Wapello Co., IA).
Visitation opens at 10 a.m. Monday at the Memorial Chapel, with family present from noon until the funeral.
Memorials can be given to the family for the purchase of trees for the beautification of Mt. Pleasant. Online condolences can be made at www.olsonpowell.com.
Mrs. BERTSCH was born March 6, 1942, in Ottumwa to Donald and Bernice MASON HUTTON. She married James L. BERTSCH in October 1958. They later divorced.
She received her education from Hedrick High School. After high school, she worked as a bookkeeper for a grain elevator in Fairfield and then at Downey Furniture in Ollie. Best known as a local florist, Mrs. BERTSCH started working for her daughter at Country Charm Flowers and Gifts in 1985. She became a certified florist.
In her younger years, she enjoyed camping and boating, along with tending her flower garden.
A devoted mother and grandmother, she was anticipating the birth of her first great-grandchild.
Survivors include: daughters, Janyce (Bob) GRAY of Cedar Rapids, Tammie HANEY of Fairfield, and Sherry (Mike Shannan) BERTSCH of Washington, Iowa; and one granddaughter.
Along with her parents, Mrs. BERTSCH was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn BESCO.
