Ruth Marie DeGRANGE

Mrs. Ruth Marie DeGRANGE, 89, of Burlington died peacefully at 5:12 p.m. Sunday, June 4, 2017, at her home.

Born April 27, 1928 in Fairfield, she was the daughter of Guy and Eva (LARSON) OVERHOLSER. On June 20, 1948 she married George DeGRANGE in Lockridge. He preceded her in death on November 21, 2003.

Mrs. DeGRANGE attended Fairfield schools and was a 1946 graduate of Lockridge High School. She was a licenced practical nurse and worked with home health care, General Electric, Sylvania, IRC, National Research Bureau and at GNC in the Westland Mall.

Mrs. DeGRANGE was a member of First Presbyterian Church. A large part of her life was her community involvement and serving people. She voluteered at Salvation Army, Community Thanksgiving Dinner, the Welcome Center, Meals on Wheels and the Burlington Battered Women's Shelter. She enjoyed garage sales, shopping and crossword puzzles and loved animals - especially her dogs.

Survivors include one son, Steve (Sinmei) DeGRANGE of Saratoga, California; two daughters, Shari (Steve) SMITH of West Burlington and Sheila (Scott) GOFF of Burlington; seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; one sister, Mary Jo (Ray) BELL of Oregon; one sister-in-law, Margaret REHWOLDT of Mount Pleasant; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters Evelyn BROBSTON, Buena BATTS, and Marty HOOVER; and three brothers-in-law, Jack, Richard and Tom.

Friends may call from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. Friday, June 9th, at Lunning Chapel.

The funeral service for Mrs. DeGRANGE will be 10 a.m. Saturday, June 10th, at Lunning Chapel with the Rev. Deb Kinney officiating. Private family interment will be in Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Donnellson (note: in Lee Co., IA). The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the time of service.

Memorials have been established for First Presbyterian Church, ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), and The Special Needs Foundation of Des Moines County.
