Services planned for rural Hedrick man killed in crash

MARTINSBURG -- A 39-year-old rural Hedrick man was killed in a single-vehicle accident at about 7:45 a.m. Saturday on Highway 78 near Martinsburg in Keokuk County.

According to a Keokuk County Sheriff's Department news release, Randall Lee Erwin was traveling west on Highway 78, one mile east of the junction of highways 78 and 149, when he lost control of his vehicle on the icy pavement. The vehicle went into the south ditch, and Erwin was thrown from the vehicle.

Erwin was pronounced dead at the scene by the Keokuk County medical examiner.

The funeral for Erwin will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa, with burial in McCormick Cemetery.

Visitation began at 9 a.m. today at the funeral home and will continue with the family present from 6-8 p.m.

The Keokuk County Sheriff's Department in Sigourney investigated the accident.
