Donald Kenneth ADAM

Donald Kenneth ADAM, 82, of Richland died at 5:12 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 25, 2004, In Washington County Hospital in Washington, Iowa.

He was born May 15, 1922, in Clear Creek Township in Keokuk County, to William P. and Christina C. (GREINER) ADAM. He grew up in the Clear Creek area and attended Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School.

Don married Evelyn Mary SOBASKI Dec. 22, 1944, in Chicago, IL. He farmed most of his life in the Richland area. He was a member of Mother Cabrini Catholic Church in Richland, Knights of Columbus, and a past president of Richland Lions Club. He resided at Maplewood Manor in Keota since 1995.

For 18 years after retirement, Don and Evelyn resided in Pharr, Texas, during the winter months. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Dec. 22, 2004.

Don enjoyed antique cars, mushrooming, fishing, playing cards, horses, John Deere tractors, playing volleyball in Texas and visiting with people. He never knew a stranger.

Don is survived by his wife Evelyn of Keota; four children, Marsha SIEREN and husband Jerome of Hedrick, Diana HAMMES and husband Mike of Davenport, Sharon GRAY and husband Randy of Sammamish, WA, and Bill ADAM and wife Jane of Richland; eight grandchildren, Stephanie SIEREN of Chicago, IL, Steve SIEREN of Hedrick, Maureen HAMMES of Davenport, Shawn GRAY and wife Leah of Santa Monica, CA, Jamie BURRELL and husband Ryan of Carnation, WA, Brandi ADAM of Cedar Rapids, Brent ADAM and wife Lena of Packwood, Troy ADAM of Iowa City and Michael BOLTON of Bettendorf; three great-grandchildren, Taylor BOLTON and Weston and Kiyono GRAY; four sisters, Eleanor SOBASKI and Isabelle LEPPERT, both of Richland, Jeanette FRENCH of Rockford, IL, and Francine FREEMAN of Tiffin; and three brothers, Walter ADAM, Richard ADAM and Ronald ADAM, all of Fairfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Lucille ADRIAN and Marian HAMMES; one brother, Omer ADAM; and one granddaughter, Margo (HAMMES) BOLTON.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 28, 2004, at St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Church in Richland, with the Rev. Charles J. Fladung, the Rev. Charles Adam and the Rev. Marty Goetz officiating. Burial will be in Richland Friends Cemetery in Richland.

Family visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday afternoon at the church in Richland, followed by Prayers for a Christian Wake at 7 p.m.

Memorials to American Diabetes Association or St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church can be left at the church or mailed to the family at 1002 Greentree Ave., Richland 52585.
