Dale William SMITH

Dale William SMITH, 83, of Ottumwa, died at 10:35 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22, 2017, at Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa (note: in Wapello Co., IA).

The funeral will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday at First Pentecostal Assembly of God in Ottumwa, with the Rev. Richard Schlotter and the Rev. John DeBoef officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery (note: in Ottumwa, IA).

Visitation began at 11 a.m. today at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa, where the family will be present from 5-7 p.m.

Memorials can be made to First Pentecostal Assembly of God or Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa for the Memory Unit.

Mr. SMITH was born June 27, 1933, in Fairfield, the son of William Arthur and Anna Margaret GOHN SMITH. He married Sharon HAWKINS Nov. 22, 1952.

Mr. SMITH was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 34 years, retiring as the Scottsbluff, Nebraska, postmaster in 1989. He then managed the Super 8 Motel in Ottumwa for nine years, retiring in 1998.

He attended First Pentecostal Assembly of God.

He served on the boards of River Community Credit Union and First Church of the Open Bible. He was a member of the Kiwanis in Fairfield and Scottsbluff.

Survivors include: his wife, Sharon; children, Marcia ERNST of Branson, Missouri, Joleen SCOTT of Mt. Pleasant, Julie CALLAS of Ottumwa, Becky ADAM of Fairfield, Jill KILTHAU of Scottsbluff, and Chris SMITH of Ottumwa; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Flossie PEARSON of Waldport, Oregon, Pauline NORD of Centerville, Velma SCHNIEPP of Decatur, Illinois, and Patty DeBOEF of What Cheer.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; four sisters, Ruth SMITH, Margie WESTON, Florence PETERSON and Dorothy MORRISON.
