Evelyn S. HOOTMAN, 91, of Birmingham, died Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2017, at SunnyBrook Living Care Center in Fairfield.

Funeral arrangements are pending at Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Evelyn S. HOOTMAN

Evelyn S. HOOTMAN, 91, formerly of Birmingham, died Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2017, at SunnyBrook Living Care Center in Fairfield.

A graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Maple Hill Cemetery in Birmingham, with Francis Coffin officiating.

The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. at Raymond Funeral Home in Birmingham.

Memorials can be made to SunnyBrook Living Care Center.

Mrs. HOOTMAN was born Feb. 4, 1925, in Albany, New York, the daughter of Daniel and Rose DUKER SAULSBERY. She married and later divorced Mervin SKIRVIN and Richard HOOTMAN.

She grew up and attended school in Albany. She moved to Iowa in 1945, to California in 1963, and then to New York for 12 years before returning to Iowa.

Mrs. HOOTMAN worked as a telephone operator for 20 years, both in California and for United Telephone Company in Fairfield. She also worked as a cook at Parsons College in Fairfield.

Her pastimes included reading, especially mysteries. She also enjoyed all kinds of music, especially music by Dean Martin.

Survivors include: two daughters, Joyce COFFIN with husband Francis of Birmingham and Roseann LIGHT with husband Roger of Rolla, Missouri; five grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and one brother Jack SAULSBERY of Albany, New York.

She was preceded in death by: one son, John SKIRVIN; her parents; and one sister, Bee WOODRUFF.
