Donald POOL, 89, of Eldon died Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017, at Hospice House, Ottumwa. Arrangements are pending at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua.

Donald S. POOL

Donald S. POOL, 89, of Eldon, died at 4:23 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017, at Hospice House in Ottumwa (note: in Wapello Co., IA).

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Living Hope Bible Church in Eldon, with the Rev. Mark Clark and the Rev. Dave Albert officiating. Burial will be in Eldon Cemetery (note: also in Wapello Co., IA).

Visitation will open at 3 p.m. today at the church, with family present 5-7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Living Hope Bible Church, Eldon senior meals or Eldon Depot Museum. Memorials can be left at the church or mailed to the family at PO Box 288, Eldon 52554.

Pedrick Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Mr. POOL was born Nov. 14, 1927, in Douds, the son of Fred C. and Opal AKERMAN POOL. He married Mary Ellen SCONCE; they later divorced. He married Linda KEASLING HEMM Nov. 28, 1986, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Mr. POOL grew up in the Selma-Douds area and graduated from Selma High School in 1945.

He owned and operated Pool Oil Company and Pool Fertilizer Company, both in Eldon, for many years.

He was a member of Living Hope Bible Church, was a charter member of the former Eldon Lions Club, served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War (sic - Korean Conflict) and was a member of the Eldon American Legion Post.

Survivors include: his wife, Linda; one son, Phil POOL of West Burlington; one daughter, Julie Ann SIDAK and husband Gene of Griffin, Georgia; two "bonus" daughters, Holly SNYDER and husband David of Huntsville, Missouri, and Sherri BEATTIE and husband Ray of Ottumwa; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Gladys FITE of Floris and Kathryn WELLER of Douds.

He was preceded in death by: one brother, Wesley POOL; and two sisters, Eva ANDERSON MILLER and Margaret BAILEY.
