Harold A. DORSEY

The Rev. Harold A. DORSEY, 86, of Mt. Pleasant, died Saturday, Dec. 31, 2016, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City (note: in Johnson Co., IA).

The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Salem Congregational Church, with the Rev. Aaron Helterbran officiating. Burial will be in Salem East Cemetery, with full military rites by the Henry County Honor Guard (note: in Henry Co., IA).

Visitation will begin after noon Friday at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mt. Pleasant, where family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m.

Memorials can be given to Salem Congregational Church or Franklin Graham's Samaritan's Purse Organization. Online condolences can be directed to www.olsonpowell.com.

The Rev. DORSEY was born Jan. 25, 1930, in Ashton, Missouri, the son of Andrew and Clara Edith WOODRYFF DORSEY. He married Imogene Martha BAILEY July 23, 1977, at the Little Brown Church at Nashua.

He graduated from high school in Revere, Missouri, then served in the Army in Japan during the Korean conflict. After military service, he attended and graduated from Moody Bible Institute.

He pastored churches in Ohio and Iowa. For a time, he left the ministry and worked at Harper Brush Works in Fairfield, but returned to ministry spending his last years before retirement serving the Salem Congregational Church.

An active member of the Salem Congregational Church, the Rev. DORSEY also belonged to the American Legion Simkin-Pidgeon Post 94 in Salem. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was passionate about every aspect of ministry and loved serving God.

Survivors include: his wife; one daughter, Karen HAMRE with Dave of Ottumwa; one son, Kim DORSEY of Alaska; two stepsons Robert BARNETT with Eileen of Salem and James BARNETT of Rome, Iowa; one stepdaughter, Judy EPPERHEIMER of Yakima, Washington; one brother, Gerald of Bowling Green, Missouri; one sister, Joan MATTOCKS of Springfield, Missouri; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; and one infant sister.
