Nadine FRANKLIN

Nadine FRANKLIN, 93, of Indianola and formerly of Fairfield, died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2016, at the Indianola Good Samaritan Center (note: in Warren Co., IA).

The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield.

Visitation will be 9-10:30 a.m. Tuesday prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorials can be given to the Indianola First United Methodist Church or the Fairfield Public Library. Online condolences can be made at www.overtonfunerals.com .

Mrs. FRANKLIN was born Jan. 17, 1923, the daughter of Sam and Nannie NEWTON BARNETT. She married Paul FRANKLIN Aug. 15, 1945. He preceded her in death.

She graduated from Milton High School and received her under graduate from Parsons College.

She began teaching in a two-room school in rural Davis County. She taught in almost every school in Fairfield, including the rooms above The Fairfield Ledger. Eventually she taught junior high government and social studies, retiring in 1991.

Through these years, she was active in First Christian Church and juggling the activities of her three children.

In 1991, she and Paul moved to Indianola. She was very active with AAUW, BPW, UMW and the National Balloon Museum. She also volunteered at the Warren County Historical Society in Indianola.

Survivors include: three children, Garnet FRANKLIN, Jon FRANKLIN with Shelly, and Craig FRANKLIN with Denise; and three grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by: her parents; and an infant brother.

Nadine FRANKLIN

Services for Nadine FRANKLIN, 93, who passed away Thursday, December 29, 2016 at the Indianola Good Samaritan Center will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola, IA. Burial will take place in the Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield, IA.

Nadine was born January 17, 1923, the daughter of Sam and Nannie (NEWTON) BARNETT; she graduated from Milton High School and received her under graduate from Parsons College. She was united in marriage to Paul FRANKLIN on August 15, 1945.

Nadine began teaching in a two-room school in rural Davis Co. She taught in almost every school in Fairfield including the rooms above the Ledger. Eventually she taught junior high government and social studies, retiring in 1991. Through these years she was especially active in the First Christian Church juggling the activities of her three energetic children.
