AGENCY -- Gene PEEBLER, 71, of Agency died on May 31, 1999, at his home.
He was born on March 7, 1928, in Batavia to Wayne and Elsie LITTLEFIELD PEEBLER. He married Esther HEATER on March 23, 1948, in Kirksville, Mo.
He was raised and educated in the Batavia area, and graduated from Fairfield High School in 1947. He had previously lived in Riverdale, Md., where he was employed by Patuxent Wildlife Research Center, Department of Interior for 28 years. Following retirement, he and his wife moved back to Agency in 1986. He was a member of Brethren Church near Libertyville,O.B. Nelson American Legion Post #3 in Ottumwa, and the Moose Lodge in Riverdale, Md.
He is survived by his wife; three sons, Steve of Glen Burnie, Md., David of Brandywine, Md., and Doug of Fairfield; five daughters, Beverly GRAY of Bloomfield, Joyce GIANNAKIS of Bowie, Md., Marsha RAMBO of Chesapeake Beach, Md., Janet APATOFF of Elliott City, Md., and Sonja WILLIAMS of Winston Salem, N.C.; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Norma HICKS of O'Fallon, Mo., Shirley LUTHER of Brookings, S.D., and Doris THRASHER and Dorothy PEEBLER of Ottumwa.
He was preceded in death by a son, Michael.
The service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Kremer Funeral Home in Batavia, the Rev. Gordon Oliver officiating. Burial will be in Brethren Cemetery southeast of Batavia.
Visitation will begin at noon Wednesday with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Casket bearers will be Dennis, Doug Jr., Wayne and Larry PEEBLER, Phillip RAMBO, Ray WILLIAMS Jr. and Ted HICKS.
Memorials may be directed to the Brethren Cemetery Association.
