Francis Ronald 'Ron' NOKES

Francis Ronald "Ron" NOKES, 79, of Fairfield, died Monday, Dec. 19, 2016, at Parkview Care Center in Fairfield.

A memorial service be 1 p.m. (sic) Thursday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, with Bishop Jason Titze officiating. Burial of cremains will be at a later date in Marble Valley Cemetery in Gilmore City (note: in Humboldt Co., IA).

The service will be preceded by visitation for family and friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Memorials can be made to Parkview Care Center for a memorial bench. Cards and memorials can be sent to Chris BOLANDER, 4141 Enden Lane, Des Moines 50317. Online condolences can be made to the family at www.behnerfh.com.

Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield is assisting with arrangements.

Mr. NOKES was born Feb. 23, 1937, in Madelia, Minnesota, the son of Francis Sterling NOKES and Sylvia Lenora HANSON.

Mr. NOKES worked at Jetco Manufacturing as a welder. He also farmed.

He collected John Deere memorabilia. He loved going to his grandchildren and great grandchildren's sporting events. He was their No. 1 fan. He enjoyed horses, going to horse pulls, horse sales and going to antique tractor pulls.

Survivors include: six children, Dean NOKES and wife JoAnn of Pella, LeAnn TITUS and husband Chuck of Fairfield, Chris BOLANDER and husband Tim of Des Moines, and Jim NOKES of Des Moines, Deb NOKES of Lytton, and Ronda WALLACE of Washington; 21 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; two sisters, LaDonna YEAGER of Russellville, Arkansas, and Lorene BURNETT of Webster City; one brother, Don NOKES of Webster City.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; one son, Kevin NOKES; one grandson; and one sister, RaNee BARTON.
