Verliena Maxine BECKER

Verliena Maxine BECKER, 84, of North Liberty, died Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2016, at her home (note: in Johnson Co., IA).

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Richmond. Burial will be in the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa (note: in Washington Co., IA).

A rosary and vigil service will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Holy Trinity Parish Life Center in Richmond. After the service, the family will greet friends from 3:30-8 p.m.

A memorial fund has been established for Holy Trinity Catholic Church and Iowa City Hospice. Messages can be sent to the family at www.powellfuneralhomes.com.

Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona is assisting with arrangements.

Mrs. BECKER was born May 6, 1932, in rural Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Robert and Josephine BIRKA NORTH. She married Norbert BECKER Oct. 3, 1950, in Pleasant Plain. He preceded her in death (note: on December 9, 2002).

She graduated from Fairfield High School in 1950.

The BECKERs farmed in the Ainsworth community for 30 years, retiring to Kalona in 1989. Mrs. BECKER moved to North Liberty in 2010.

She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and lived her life each day honoring and worshiping (sic) the Lord.

Survivors include: 11 children, Bob BECKER and wife Gloria of Douds, Jerry BECKER of Riverside, Don BECKER and wife Cindy of North Liberty, John BECKER and wife Karen of The Villages, Florida, Bonnie BECKER with James Soukup of Bothell, Washington, Ken BECKER of Hills, Terry BECKER of Atalissa, Mary Jo KINNEY and husband Rob of Coralville, Brenda SHELMAN and husband Matt of West Burlington, Deb FUHR and husband Jim of Washington, Steve BECKER and wife Anita of Iowa City; 29 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Carol GEVOCK of Agency.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by: her parents; and one son, Tim.
