Carrol Dean McLeland
November 26, 2004Carrol Dean McLeland, 68, of Bode and formerly of Stockport, died Friday, Oct. 29, 2004, at home.
The funeral was held in St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Bode, with the Rev. Paul Breddin officiating. Burial was in St. Olaf Cemetery in Bode.
Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Bode was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. McLeland was born April 8, 1936, in Stockport, the son of Harry and Blanche McLeland. He married Sharon McBurney.
He grew up in Stockport. After graduating from high school, he served four years in the United States Air Force in Europe. He then was employed as carrier supervisor for the United States Postal Service in Des Moines until accepting the position of postmaster in Iowa Falls. From 1989-1991, he served as postmaster in Fenton, Mo., in the St. Louis area, until becoming postmaster in Fort Dodge. He retired in 1995 to Bode.
Mr. McLeland served as mayor of Bode from 1998-2003. He also served as bus driver for Twin River Valley school district. He was a member of Bode Community Club, National Association of Postal Service Employees and Spring Valley Country Club. He was a past member of the Elks lodge in Iowa Falls and had served as vice president of United Way in Fort Dodge.
He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, traveling, visiting with people and playing golf, and was an Iowa Hawkeye fan.
He is survived by his wife; five children, Brent McLeland of Idaho, Rhonda Ebbert and husband David of Savage, Minn., Troy McLeland of Colorado, Mike McLeland of St. Louis, Mo., and Jeff McLeland and wife Maggie of St. Louis; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one stepson, Robert McBurney Jr.; and two brothers, Ronald and Wayne McLeland.
