Walter HILL, 74, of rural Birmingham, died Monday night, Nov. 21, 2016, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City (note: in Johnson Co., IA).

Arrangements are pending at Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Walter E. HILL

Walter E. HILL, 74, of rural Birmingham, died Monday, Nov. 21, 2016, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City (note: in Johnson Co., IA).

The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church in Fairfield, with the Rev. Greg Friedrich officiating. Interment will be at Maple Hill Cemetery in Birmingham (note: in Van Buren Co., IA).

The family will receive friends 4-7 p.m. Friday at Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield, with a Masonic rite service following at 7 p.m.

Memorials can be made to Shriners Children Hospital or to First Lutheran Church in Fairfield.

Mr. HILL was born Nov. 5, 1942, in Mt. Pleasant, the son of Max D. amd Mildred Ruth GRAF HILL. He married Deb MONSON July 5, 1963; they divorced. He married Bonnie Jean RUNKLLE (sic - RUNKLE) March 21, 1980. She died June 17, 2007.

Mr. HILL lived most of his life in Jefferson County. He graduated from Fairfield High School in 1961.

He was a policeman in Mt. Pleasant before joining the Jefferson County Sheriffs Department as deputy sheriff and serving for more than 30 years.

Mr. HILL was a member of First Lutheran Church in Fairfield.

Mr hwas a charger member of L.I.E.N., Clinton Masonic Lodge No. 15, Kilwinning Masonic Lodge No. 198 of Batavia, York Rite Body, ROJ, and was currently chief rabban of KAABA Temple in Davenport, and a member of the Eagles Lodge (sic - Eagles Aerie) No. 1927 in Fairfield.

He was an avid Dodgers and Cubs fan.

Survivors include: his companion, Mary Coffin; three children, Karen HILL of Hills, Norma BAKER and husband Tony of Fairfield, and Billie Ray HILL and wife Lynn of Oskaloosa; four stepchildren, Dale INGWERSEN and wife Amanda of Douds, Jeffrey INGWERSEN and wife Tammy of Washington, Iowa, Jody HOWARD of Albia and Thomas ROSS of North Liberty; 22 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Larry HILL of Fairfield, Keith HILL of Brighton; and one sister, Donna GREINER of Brighton.

In addition to his wife Bonnie HILL, he was preceded in death by: his parents; and one grandson.
