Esther Marie Hardy, 97, of Batavia died at 8:33 p.m. Monday, Nov. 22, 2004, at Jefferson County Hospital.

A graveside service will be held at a later date in Wapello Cemetery in Wapello. The body was cremated.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be mailed to the family at 2184 Hemlock Ave., Batavia 52533.

Behner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hardy was born Jan. 30, 1907, in Richards, Mo., the daughter of Fred and Emma Schweigert Greiner. She married Henderson Hardy March 30, 1943, in Memphis, Mo. He died Jan. 20, 1988.

She resided in rural Wapello for 92 years until moving to her daughter's home in Batavia six years ago. She was a homemaker. In addition, she owned Hardy Implement, a John Deere dealership in Wapello, for 10 years.

Mrs. Hardy was associated with Fairfield Friends Church.

She enjoyed quilting and gardening.

Survivors include one daughter, Ruth Eileen Pickard and husband Edwin of Batavia and one son Marvin Lee Hardy of Wapello; 10 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; and one sister, Marie Williams of St. Louis, Mo.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one stepson, Lee R. Hardy; and two brothers, Robert and John Greiner.
