M. DeWayne LANTZ, 74, of Remsen, and formerly of Council Bluffs, died Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016, at Happy Siesta Nursing Home in Remsen (note: in Plymouth Co., IA).
A memorial service will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel in Council Bluffs. Private family burial will be held at a later date.
Visitation, with the family, will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mr. LANTZ was born March 9, 1942, in Hillsboro, the son of Stanley and Verlee MORRISON LANTZ. He married Linda Lee RIGGS BATES Aug. 20, 1988, in Council Bluffs.
Mr. LANTZ graduated valedictorian from Iowa School for the Deaf in 1961. After graduation, he worked as a typesetter for the Eldora Herald in Eldora from 1961-1974, then as a typesetter for Lindenboger Type in Dubuque from 1974-1981.
Mr. LANTZ moved to Council Bluffs in 1983 and was a house parent and computer technician at Iowa School for the Deaf and also worked at West Iowa Tool. He then worked for Mount Pleasant Plastics before moving to Fairfield, where he worked for H & H Mold from 1984-2011.
He earned his tool and die making diploma from Iowa Western Community College in 1985.
Mr. LANTZ was a member of the CB Silent Club and the Iowa Association of the Deaf.
Survivors include: his wife, Linda LANTZ of Le Mars; several grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister, Phyllis "Pat" NEWBOLD of Tecumseh, Michigan; brother, Darrell "Butch" LANTZ of Roy, Washington; and three stepsons, Brian BATES and wife Kathy of Griswold, Kevin BATES and wife Dacia of Merrill, and Aaron BATES and wife Megan of Griswold.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: son, Stevie BATES; and brother, Roland LANTZ.
