Jeanne was born in Berwyn, IL to Ned Scott CONE and Verna Belle (PALMER) CONE on May 4, 1927. She joined older brothers Ned, Jr. and William, Sr. The family moved to Waterloo, IA and Jeanne graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1945. She attended MacMurray College and transferred to the University of Iowa where she was an active member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority and where she met her future husband on a blind date. Jeanne graduated from the University of Iowa with a B.S. in Commerce and married Max Robert WERLING on June 17, 1951 at her parents' home in Waterloo. Jeanne and Max moved to Tipton, IA where Max was starting his law career which spanned more than 50 years. Together, they raised their children, Scott, Stuart and Sarah and AFS son Peter Leuenberger.

Jeanne was active in the Tipton Community; she was an avid golfer and had many friends through the Tipton Golf & Country Club and various bridge clubs. She enjoyed playing bridge and cards in general. She had a competitive spirit which made her a worthy adversary on the golf course or at the card table.

Jeanne owned and operated Werling Abstract Company in Tipton for many years. After retiring, she and Max spent the winters in Green Valley, AZ, playing more golf and bridge and socializing with new friends and old friends, including several Tipton friends who also spent winters there.

In 2004, Jeanne moved from Tipton to Fairfield, IA and spent the next several years playing a little bit more golf, until she was not able to enjoy it any longer; and playing bridge with new friends. She spent a lot of time in the bleachers and in the audience, watching grandchildren's sporting events, band and choir concerts, plays and musicals. Her grandchildren will remember that she always had an open door; was always willing to take them where they needed to go and pick them up when they were done. They will also remember that she ALWAYS had candy in her freezer. And she made the best sour cream cookies.

Jeanne was a long-time member of First United Church of Christ in Tipton until she joined First Presbyterian Church in Fairfield. She was a member of many organizations in Tipton. She kept in touch with friends from MacMurray College, her Tri-Delt friends, her Tipton friends and especially her dear friends from Waterloo.

Jeanne is survived by her children: Scott (Cindy) of Anamosa, Stuart (Paula) of Tipton, Sarah (Terry) COCHRAN of Fairfield and Peter Leuenberger and his family of Switzerland. She is survived by eight grandchildren: Eric WERLING (Sarah), Todd WERLING (Heidi), Carrie SCOGGINS (Darin), Andrew WERLING (Laura), Anne WERLING (Brandon FRAIM), Ryan COCHRAN, Duncan COCHRAN and Shannon COCHRAN. She is also survived by five great grandchildren: Peyton WERLING and Teagan WERLING; Arden WERLING and Nile WERLING; and Everett WERLING and by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nepehws and dear friends Mary Nilsson and Patty Waack.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, a nephew and her husband, Max.

The family wishes to extend many thanks to her friends, her caretaker and friend, Barb Gaumer and to the staff at SunnyBrook Living Care Center who helped care for her the past several months.
