Carroll Eugene HARWOOD

Carroll Eugene HARWOOD, 77, of Fairfield, died Friday, Aug. 26, 2016, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City (note: in Johnson Co., IA).

A graveside memorial service will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Abingdon Cemetery, with the Rev. Danny Cary officiating.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Behner Funeral Home & Crematory in Fairfield.

Memorials to the family can be sent to Scott HARWOOD, 1300 W. Jackson Ave., Lot 13, Fairfield 52556.

Mr. HARWOOD was born July 7, 1939, the son of Lafeyette M. and Eleanor NELSON HARWOOD. He married bonnie ROLAND in May of 1963; they later divorced. He married Ella Marie OOSTHOEK Feb, 8, 1985.

Mr. HARWOOD was a lifelong resident of Fairfield. He graduated from Fairfield High School in 1957. He was a machinist at Rockwell Collins and retired in 1996.

Mr. HARWOOD served in the U.S. Army.

He was a member of VFW and Fraternal Order of Eagles. He enjoyed playing cards, watching old western movies and Cubs baseball, and especially spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include: his wife, Ella "Marie" HARWOOD of Fairfield; three children, Scott HARWOOD of Fairfield, Stephen HARWOOD and wife Synthia of Madrid, Iowa, and Stacey LUPHER and husband Doug of Des Moines; three stepchildren, Mike OSBORN and wife Belinda of Mount View, California, Sherri HELTERBRAN and husband Calvin of Fairfield and Shelly BRUEGGE and husband Willis of Birmingham; two brothers, Kenneth HARWOOD of Ottumwa, and Tom HARWOOD of Danville; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded by: his parents; and two brothers, James and Michael HARWOOD.

Following the service, a luncheon for family and friends is planned at 1 p.m. at the Fairfield VFW.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Behner Funeral Home & Crematory in Fairfield.
