Marlene 'Molly' Elizabeth ENGLISH

Marlene "Molly" Elizabeth ENGLISH, 48, died Thursday, Aug. 4, 2016.

A memorial is planned 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 4 at the VFW in Mt. Pleasant.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the USO.

Miss ENGLISH was born June 6, 1968, in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of Lyle and Linda ENGLISH.

She graduated from Mt. Pleasant Community School in 1986. She graduated from University of Iowa, majoring in political science. She enrolled at Lancaster University in England in 1989, studying there for a year. She moved to Lyon, France, in 1992.

She served her country by working for the government in Washington, D.C. She considered it an honor and privelege to have served and worked for such leaders as Congressman Jim Lightfoot and President George W. Bush, as well as campaigning recently for Sen. Joni Ernst and many others. She also loved having opportunities to attend and serve at numerous presidential conventions and inaugurations.

She devoted much of her time and resources to honoring the men and women in the U.S. Armed Forces. She volunteered with the USO and loved being a part of the Honor Flights that take World War II veterans to visit their national memorial. She was referred to as the "cookie lady" by the numerous soldiers she baked thousands of cookies for who were serving in Afghanistan and Iraq.

She ran in numerous events around the country. She qualifyed (sic) to run in the Boston Marathon in 2013.

Survivors include: her parents, Lyle and Linda ENGLISH of Mt. Pleasant; one brother, Steve ENGLISH and family of Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

She was preceded in death by: her paternal grandparents, Alfred and Marie ENGLISH; her maternal grandparents, Willard "Jack" and Aletha DROZ.
