Berle Bond DECKER

Berle Bond DECKER, 78, of South Sioux City, Nebraska, and formerly of Fairfield, died Tuesday morning, Aug. 16, 2016, at Mercy Hospital in Sioux City (sic - Iowa).

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ottumwa Baptist Temple in Ottumwa, with the Rev. Travis Decker officiating. Burial will be in Richland Friends Cemetery at Richland (note: in Keokuk Co., IA).

Visitation at the church begins at 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorials can be made to Ottumwa Baptist Temple.

Arrangements are in the care of Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield,

Mr. DECKER was born Dec. 19, 1937, in Fairfield, the son of Merle and Elinor NELSON DECKER. He married Janice CHRISTIANSEN Jan. 22, 1960. She preceded him in death.

He graduated from Fairfield High School with the Class of 1956. He later attended Parsons College in Fairfield and the University of Omaha.

He served as a medic in the U.S. Army Reserves.

Mr. DECKER spent most of his adult life in Omaha, Nebraska, where he retired as owner of Laywell Carpets. His last residence was Matney Manor Nursing Home in South Sioux City.

Mr. DECKER enjoyed listening to Christian radio, old hymns and oldies from the 1950s. He was an avid trivia buff and had a quick wit.

Survivors include: one sister, Marna DECKER BENION of Lewisburg, Pensylvania (sic); and one brother, Terrence DECKER of Libertyville.

In addition to his wife, Mr. DECKER was preceded in death by his parents.
