James Leroy THOMAS

James Leroy THOMAS, 79, of Eldon, died Monday, Aug. 8, 2016, at Good Samaritan Society Hospice in Ottumwa (note: in Wapello Co., IA).

As were his wishes, the body has been cremated, with no services to be held at this time.

Mr. THOMAS was born March 16, 1937, in rural Eldon, the son of Harry and Mary MARTSCHING THOMAS. He married Patricia ROGERS. They divorced.

He grew up in Eldon, and graduated from Cardinal High School in 1955. He served in the United States Marine Corps 1956-1959.

Mr. THOMAS worked in management for packing plants in California, then returned home and worked in meintenance for several local companies before retiring from Dexter Laundry Inc. in Fairfield.

Mr. THOMAS loved to golf and bowl in his free time. He traveled and competed in the Amateur Bowlers Tour. He appreciated good conversation and did not know a stranger.. (sic)

Survivors include: two siblings, Martha BEDFORD of Eldon and Fred THOMAS of Eldon.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; and one brother, Willard THOMAS.
