Dorothy Louise BROCK MORRILL

Dorothy Louise BROCK MORRILL, 99, of Fairfield, died Saturday, Aug. 6, 2016, at SunnyBrook Living Center in Fairfield.

A private family graveside service is planned.

Family and friends can call from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Noah's Ark Animal Foundation or Compassus Hospice. Online condolences can be made to the family at www.raymondfuneralhomes.com.

Mrs. MORRILL was born July 6, 1917, in Fairfield, the daughter of Walter Lloyd and Clara B. RAINS BROCK. She married Percy Ray MORRILL Dec. 30, 1939. He died Oct. 20, 1991.

Mrs. MORRILL was a lifelong Fairfield native. After graduating from Fairfield High School, she began a long career working at various Fairfield businesses including Lieber Variety, J. C. Penney, Parkview Nursing Home, Pierson Plumbing and Gobble Clothiers. After her retirement, she returned to work part time for Pieper Law Firm.

She was involved in many organizations and activities.

She was active in First Baptist Church and more recently with First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). She taught Sunday school, was a member of missionary circle, prayer groups and various women's groups over the years.

Mrs. MORRILL was a frequent visitor to shut-ins and nursing homes, and often took along her husband to sing and play guitar or accordian; she played the piano.

She was a longtime member of the Business and Professional Women's Club, and enjoyed participating in their activities, including bake sales, fashion shows, and other fundraisers. She was proud to be recipient of a BPW Woman of the Year award.

For many years, Mrs. MORRILL could be found volunteering at the Jefferson County Hospital Auxiliary's Bargain Box. She enjoyed meeting and getting to know people through her volunteerism.

She also had many interests and hobbies, including sewing, crochet, needlework, birdwatching, caring for her pets and gardening. One of her favorite pastimes was to regale friends and family with stories of "the old days" in Fairfield, including her childhood years spent on the farm, riding horseback to the little one-room schoolhouse, and cooking up big meals for the farmers during threshing time.

Survivors include: one daughter, Ruth MORRILL of Fairfield.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by: her parents; and one sister, Florence BROCK DALEY.
