Gerald 'Gary' L. HORTON

Gerald "Gary" L. HORTON, 81, formerly of Fairfield, Iowa died Sunday, July 31, 2016 at Crestview Acres, Marion (note: in Linn Co., IA).

No services are planned at this time. Per his wishes, he will be cremated. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Survivors include his daughter, Kelly BANES and her fiancée Steve LAW; granddaughter, Amber (Eric) HENLINE and their children, Reid ORTIZ and Reyata ORTIZ; granddaughter Lindsey (Jordan) BOCK and their son, Evan BOCK; nieces and nephews, Jolene HORTON, JD HORTON, Kristin KLEPINGER, Mark SMITH, Scott SMITH and Laurie LANDRUM; former wife, Nancy HORTON; sister-in-laws (sic), Dixie SMITH and Carol PARKIN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Kirk HORTON, grandson Jeff REHNSTROM, brother Donald HORTON, mother and father-in-laws Kay and Clifford WEIDNER and brother-in-law, Barry KLEPINGER.

Gerald Lee HORTON was born January 19, 1935 in Fairfield, Iowa, the son of Vernard (Pete) and Esther (WICKHAM) HORTON. He worked as a postal clerk with his father and brother for the Fairfield Post Office for many years until retiring at the age of 55. Gary served in the National Guard for 12 years and played his clarinet with the National Guard Army Band at the Fairfield square for many years. He enjoyed football, running and baseball, especially the Chicago Bears and Cubs. He was an avid daily golfer and lived at Walton Lake where he golfed daily. Gary loved his family and friends. He can now rest in heaven and once again play golf with his deceased family and friends. Dad, we love you and will cherish all your memories till (sic) we meet again. Yesterday is already a dream and tomorrow is only a vision. But today, well lived makes every yesterday a dream of happiness and every tomorrow a vision of hope. Rest in peace Dad!

A memorial fund has been established in his name.
