Martha Helen HILL HAYS

A graveside memorial service will be held at the Batavia cemetery on Monday Jluy 18 at 1 pm for Martha Helen HILL HAYS of Des Moines, formerly of Batavia. Martha passed away on her 89th birthday, November 5, 2015, at Broadlawns Hospital in Des Moines after a brief illness.

Martha was the second of six children born to Darcie (D.D.) and Ella (FISHER) HILL in Batavia. She graduated from Batavia High School in 1945 and went on to attend Parsons College. There she met and married Lorin N. HAYS of Knoxville. The couple had two children, Larry and Michele, before they divorced. Martha lived and worked in Des Moines for most of her life and had been a resident of the Rehabilitation Center of Des Moines in recent years.

She is survived by her son Larry (Jewell) of Cedar Falls, her daughter Michele ROSE (John) of Mitchellville, three grandchildren and six great grandchildren, her sister Marilyn AYDELETTE (Tom) of Southern Pines, SC, her sister Kathryn "Kay" KISLING (Dwight) of Loveland, CO, her brother David (Joed) of Iturbe, Guaira, Paraguary (sic - Paraguay), South America, and scores of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Dorothy McKENNA (John), and her brother Carlos Valdo HILL. Carlos (84) passed away on November 1, 2015 in Loveland, CO., and will be remembered along with Martha at the graveside memorial service.
