Death of Mrs. MATHEWS

Caroline, wife of W. J. N. MATHEWS, died at her home south of this city, in Cedar township, Friday. She was born in Lawrence county, Ill., and was in the fiftieth year of her age. She was married January 17th, 1876 (sic - January 24, 1878, per county marriage records, #4873), and was the mother of eleven children, all of whom are living. Mrs. MATTHEWS (sic) united with the Methodist Episcopal church at Birmingham four years ago, and her life was wholly consistent with its teachings. She was a great sufferer during her final illness, but her faith triumphed over her sufferings. The sympathy of the community will go out to the stricken husband and family. The remains were interred sunday afternoon, Rev. J. F. Magill of this city conducting the funeral services.

Note: Burial was in Roth Cemetery, and the DOD on her gravestone is mistakenly engraved as Nov. 22, 1901. Her husband died Nov. 21, 1905, and is buried with her.
