John W. HARPER, 81, died Wednesday at 12:30 p.m., at the Nelson Nursing Home. He had been in failing health the past year.
Funeral services will be held at the Weston Behner Funeral Home on Saturday at 11 a.m. Rev. Joseph Sollars will officiate and burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7:30 p.m., to 9 p.m., on Friday.
HARPER was born Dec. 12, 1892 at Unionville, Mo., the son of James and Alice HINES HARPER. He was married to Maggie HULL on July 5, 1915. She died Sept. 15, 1964.
He spent all of his early life in Fairfield and lived in Davenport for over 57 years. He worked for the Milwaukee Railroad for over 40 years before he retired.
Surviving are two daughters, Ruth FOSTER of Milan, Ill., and Wanita LANDON of Davenport and a son, Everett HARPER of Davenport, 20 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for John HARPER will be held Saturday at 11 a.m., at the Weston Behner Funeral Home with the Rev. Joseph Sollars officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.
He is survived by two daughters, Ruth FOSTER of Milan, Ill., and Wanita LANDON of Davenport and a son, Everett HARPER of Davenport, 20 grandchildren, and 41 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Jennie LATHROP of Fairfield. He was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister.
The family will receive friends at the Weston Behner Funeral Home tonight from 7:30 to 9 p.m.
