Barbara Jeanne HAMBERG

Barbara Jeanne HAMBERG, 81, of Keosauqua, died today, Friday, June 10, 2016, at home with her family at her side after a year and a half battle with pancreatic cancer.

The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Keosauqua United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Mary Kathryn Hart officiating. Burial will be in Purdom Cemetery in Keosauqua (note: in Van Buren Co., IA).

Visitation opens at 3 p.m. Sunday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with family present 4-6 p.m.

Memorials to Keosauqua United Methodist Church or Keosauqua Fire Department can be left at the funeral home or church or mailed to the family at 203 Monroe St., Keosauqua 52565.

Mrs. HAMBERG was born May 8, 1935, in Cantril, the daughter of Ren and Wynona DAVIS JACK. She married Robert "Bob" Evans HAMBERG Feb. 15, 1959, in Keosauqua.

She graduated from Keosauqua High School in 1953 and worked as a bookkeeper at the Van Buren County Treasurer's Office, Van Buren County Extension Office and retired from Sullivan Drug in 1997. After retirement, she worked part time at the Keosauqua city clerk's office.

She was an active member of the Keosauqua United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Ruth Circle, Order of the Eastern Star, past matron of OES in Cantril, secretary of the Van Buren Women's Bowling Association, member of several bowling leagues, Van Buren Cancer Society, Happy Day Express Pre-School board, past board member of Riverview Country Club and township trustee secretary. She helped organize little girls softball in Van Buren County and was the coach for the Cantril/Milton team. She enjoyed watching her family play baseball and basketball, bowling, preparing financial records/keeping books for the family farms, traveling, reading, the occasional trip to nearby casinos, and cooking/baking for her friends, family and those in need.

Survivors include: her husband, Robert; her children, Cecil HAMBERG and wife Colleen of Keosauqua, Jacalyn "Jackie" LUCHSINGER and husband Jeff of Arvada, Colorado, and Aaron HAMBERG with Joy Padget of Keosauqua; one grandson; 12 step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Shirley DeHART of Keosauqua.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; two brothers, David and Bob JACK.
