Florence C. AVERY

Florence C. AVERY, 86, of 900 S. 32nd St. in Fairfield, died at 3:25 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, at Trinity West Hospital in Rock Island, Ill.

A memorial service for will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Mike Metz officiating. Interment will be at a later time at Antioch Cemetery, northeast of Fairfield, following cremation.

The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at the church, prior to the service.

Memorials may be made to the VFW Auxiliary or to the Jefferson County Hospital Auxiliary.

Raymond Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. AVERY was born April 8, 1918, in Fairfield, the daughter of Lester and Hazel LEWIS BURNAUGH. She married Gerald AVERY Nov. 16, 1935, in Washington, Iowa. He died March 14, 1988.

They lived for several years in Arizona.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church; VFW Auxiliary, of which she had served as president; the Jefferson County Hospital Auxiliary; Fairfield Women's Club; the guild circle at her church; and the Eagles Auxiliary.

Mrs. Avery was an active volunteer for many organizations to which she belonged. She loved to play cards and especially bridge.

Survivors include her two daughters, Mary L. WOLF of Moline, Ill., Barbara J. CROSS and her husband Marvin of Kansas City, Mo.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and one sister Eloise ESCALANTE of Tacoma, Wash.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother.
